【摘要】:Oftenduringenvironmentalinvestigations,soilsareanalyzedafterbeingcollectedfromthesurface,thevadosezone(D653)andsometimesfrombelowthegroundwatertabletoidentifyandquantifythepresenceofachemicalcontaminant.Acontaminantisasubstancethatistypicallyhazardousandeitherisnotnormallypresentorthatoccursnaturallybutisofanuncharacteristicallyhighconcentration(D4687).Athree-dimensionalspatialarrayofsamplescanoftenprovideinformationastothesourceandroute(s)ofmigrationofthecontaminant.Theresultantinformationisusedtodirectremedialandcorrectiveactionsorcanbeusedformonitoringpurposes.Obtainingasoilsamplewithacorebarrelsamplerinvolvesdrivingthisdeviceintothegroundandthenretrievingitforsampleprocessing.Severalmethodsforadvancingacorebarrelaregenerallyacceptable(e.g.,D1586,D1587,D3550,D4700,D5784,D5875,D5876,D6151,D6282,andD6286).Drillingmethodsthatusedrillingfluids(liquidsorair)shouldbeavoidedbecausetheyaremoresusceptibletocross-contamination(Seesection5.1.6).1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresforobtainingsoilsfromcorebarrelsamplersforchemicalandphysicalanalysis,withanemphasisonthecollectionandhandlingproceduresthatmaintaintherepresentativenessofthechemicalcontaminantsofconcern.Corebarrelsamplersareinitiallyempty(hollow)untiltheyarepushedintothegroundtocollectandretrieveacylindricalsoilsamplewithminimaldisturbance.Theselectionofequipmentandthesamplehandlingproceduresaredependentonthesoilproperties,thedepthofsampling,andthegeneralpropertiesofthechemicalcontaminantsofconcern,thatis,volatileorganiccompounds,semi-volatileorganiccompounds,andinorganicconstituents.Thesamplingproceduresdescribedaredesignedtomaintainrepresentativeconcentrationsofthecontaminantsregardlessoftheirphysicalstate(s),thatis,solid,liquidorgas.1.2Fourgeneraltypesofcorebarrelsamplersarediscussedinthispractice:split-barrel,ring-linedbarrel,thin-walledtube,andsolid-barrelsamplers.1.3Thisdocumentdoesnotcoverallthecorebarreldevicesthatareavailableforthecollectionofsoilsamples.1.4Theproceduresdescribedmayormaynotbeapplicabletohandlingofsamplesforassessingcertaingeotechnicalproperties,forexample,soilporosity.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
